Update: Katrina Backpack Project |
About two weeks ago we announced that we would be collecting backpacks full of toys for the kids effected by the Katrina Disaster. The giving spirit of the families of this ministry was nothing short of astounding! Bob Heath said, “We’ve attempted other service projects before and never saw this kind of response.”
Thank you to all of you who gave. We delivered 89 backpacks for distribution to children who lost everything in hurricane Katrina to Victory Christian Center on Friday, September 16, 2005. This is a joint effort of Kids for Christ USA, Victory Christian Center and Feed the Children. Also, thank you to Super Target of Tulsa who made backpacks available to our families for the project at 50% off.
Seeing the KFCUSA van filled with backpacks full of toys front to rear was an amazing site. We estimate that the overall cost of each backpack full of toys was around $35-40. I was informed of one that had a "gameboy" and game in it. Backpacks came in from every school we are in at this stage in the school year. It was really exciting to see such unity among the families of our program.
