A
few months ago I had a breakthrough book idea. It was a rip-off of an 80’s
bestseller “Everything Men Know about Women” – and I must say I was so proud of
myself that I called my literary agent to tell him about it.
My idea
was brilliant and HONEST. Not to mention an easy way to get a book
published in a hurry . . . so I thought. The book was to be titled, “All I Know
about Being a Great Dad.” When you opened it, there would be a title page
and a table of contents that would read Chapter 1, 2, 3, and so on. Then the
rest of the book would be blank pages!
The
only thing more exciting to me was the speed in which my agent called me
back. It was the only call he’s returned in months. (Hope he doesn’t read
this.) Of course he pooped all over my idea, but he suggested that I write
a book on “How to Be a Good Dad,” not a great Dad he said, adding “That bar is too intimidating for most men.”
Since
then I have been chewing on that statement. (Not the proposed book title, but
the intimidating comment.) I have one very simple response to his comment: HOW
SAD! There have been many comments, but little action on the Fatherless
state of our Nation, so I don’t intend to make my commentary on that subject.
(At least not directly.)

Christian Bashing is in Vogue |
|
Dr. Gary Cass, President and CEO of the Christian Anti-Defamation Commission, says that 2007 was a high-watermark year for “Christian Bashing,” which (by the way) is the title of his new book. As a partial means of proof, Gary offers seven significant offenses, including the deliberate execution of four believers in Colorado, the attacks on Jerry Falwell literally hours after his passing, CNN’s “God’s Warriors,” and others.
More subtle perhaps, as mentioned in my most recent blog, was the use of the word “evangelical” in TV caucus and primary election coverage, invoked to minimize “Preacher” Mike Huckabee’s success in Iowa, and to lump every person of faith into one group, for the singular purpose of dismissing their beliefs and influence with a single, broad brushstroke. |

Kids Reaching a New Generation... of Kids for Christ |
|
One staple of Kids for Christ USA Bible clubs is that we
walk the kids through “The Ticket to Heaven Prayer” on an almost weekly
basis. This is not as some might think, an effort to manipulate children
into badgering their classmates to “get saved”, but rather teaching them a
simple tool, so that if an opportunity arises they can feel confident in
leading someone to Jesus.
I have told the story of how I gave my life to Jesus at age
five...AND KNEW WHAT I WAS DOING. However, because it was taboo to tell
anyone about my faith in school or the neighborhood, I just didn't. I
loved Jesus with all my heart, but lacked the courage to share my faith. It’s
likely my story is not much different that your’s. |

The Powerful Testimony of a KFCUSA Teen |
|
For Nearly seven years I have pour my heart and life into reaching kids in the public schools. Years ago God made me aware of the potential multiplication process of this vision as these kids grew up and became teens, college students and eventually parents themselves. The story you are about to read is the story of a young lady that has been involved in Kids For Christ for all seven years. I have long been impressed with her as she is clearly a leader. She was her class President in Elementary and Jr. High School and probably has other such accomplishments that I have even forgotten or did not know. There had been no Christian/Bible Club in her High School for the last couple years, so when she contacted me and told me she wanted to spearhead the club, I was thrilled. The following in the story of the first meeting of the year. --Bob Heath
