"He did what was right in the sight of the Lord, but not with all his heart."--2 Chronicles 25:2

I think that when it comes to following after God with all our hearts, most of the Body of Christ suffers from A.D.D. (Attention Deficit Disorder).  It's not that we don't mean well, we just have so many things to keep us distracted that we don't usually follow God with all our hearts.  We are often just like King Amaziah in this scripture: we do what's right in the sight of the Lord, but not with all our hearts.

Far too many of us walk around saying that we never hear from God, as we forgo anything that resembles "quiet time" because of all the stuff we need to do.  (I'm in no way condemning anyone, because I am also guilty.) We want direction from God, but don't feel like we ever get it. Why? Time; it's a commodity few of us seem to have.   One minister says, "If the devil can't make you bad, he'll make you busy."

A few weeks ago as I ministered to a group, I asked if anyone had heard God lately?  To my surprise, not one person responded with a yes.   In 1 Samuel 3:1 it tells us that at the time when Samuel ministered to Eli as a boy, "...The word of the Lord was rare and there was no widespread revelation."  This was at a time when the people and the priests were more or less doing their own thing and not following God. Consequently, they weren't hearing Him or experiencing any revelation.

Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the
desires of your heart.--Psalms 37:4

I love that scripture!  It's so awesome to me to see that God wants us to have the desires of our heart, that He is not holding out on us.  All we have to do is delight ourselves in Him and He'll give us the things we desire.  Oh, I love that verse!  I just have a few  questions: What if David had something else in mind when he wrote that?  What if David had heard one too many people walk around whining, “God never talks to me, never directs me”? Now I'm not saying that is what he meant, but what if it was?  I know, some of you are rebuking me right now – oh well, I love you anyway.

What if it's true? What if God actually plants desires in hearts as we delight ourselves in Him?  Then there would be nothing we desired that we couldn't attain or do if we were undivided in our pursuit of Him.

1 Corinthians 2:6-8 tells us that God has wisdom hidden in Himself which was hidden and ordained in Him before the world began for our glory. When I first read that a year ago, I looked up the word ordained in the dictionary. It actually means"To prearrange unalterably".  That means that God has plans for you that were prearranged and can't be changed.  It goes on to tell us that if the devil had known the awesome plans that God had for you – JUST YOU! – in order to stop your success he would not have let Jesus be crucified.  Verse 10 of that same chapter tells us that "God has revealed them to us through his Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God."

Isn't it worth it? Isn't becoming undivided in your love for Jesus worth the cost? Let me answer that question for you: Yes it is, and as we've seen here,“God is truly a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”  All He wants is your heart, all of it.  So don’t hold back, give it to Him.  If you’ve NEVER give Him your heart do it, give Him all of it and never back off an inch, EVER!

For the past few days the concept of single mindedness has burned in me.  I have struggled to receive the peace of the Lord that His word says I already have.  My mind has been “cloudy” and somewhat random, completely consumed with the cares of this life.  Nothing will draw you away from God quicker than the care of this world.  When I begin to focus my attention and I mean ALL my attention on the awesomeness of God, the abundance of His grace and mercy in my life I am quickly brought to my knees and the clouds begin to part.  As I press in an focus on Him, peace and joy flood me and strength rises up.

I have this crazy sense just from conversations I have had in the last few days that God is pointing out the fact that many of our hearts are divided.  We have allowed the cares of this life, the election, the economy, and rumors of potential terrorist draw us away.  Yet, in Matthew 6:31-34 we are told:

“Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’  For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.  But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”

I can’t add to that, the point is made.  That is the beauty of the word of God, it really is the final answer.
