Dating Perspectives of a Christian Teen's Dad
ImageRight off the bat, I am just going to tell you three things:

1. In this case the teenager is my SON. Have you ever noticed that articles like this are usually written from the perspective of the girl’s father?

2. If you buy into the “I Kissed Dating Goodbye” theory, I should just kiss you goodbye right now, because you won’t want to hear this.

3. If you are looking for some deep spiritual directive in this piece, good luck! I promise not to use multiple Scriptures to make my points, just Biblically based horse sense. I intend this to poignant, but slightly comedic. Parenting is hard enough with a sense of humor.

A Great Day In The Kingdom of God

ImageThis past Friday (3.7.08) was an absolutely extraordinary 24 hour period in Kids for Christ USA. Actually, I am convinced that it was an extraordinary day in THE KINGDOM of GOD.  Testimonies such as these are not an everyday occurrence in our ministry, but are far more prevalent than I typically share in this platform.

To begin with, on Thursday evening God was reaching out to a young lady (14 years old) to help her overcome the temptation to "cut".  Cutting if you are not familiar with it, is a sick demonic attack against our youth.  I find it amazing that we as a nation spend insane amounts of money teaching kids to say no to drugs and alcohol.  Meanwhile cutting is not something people talk about very often, but for an estimated 2 to 3 million Americans it is a serious problem. The majority of people who self-injure or "cut" are women between the ages of 13 and 30, but there are "cutters" of every age, gender, and economic group.  (read the story on our website called "Trying to Cope..." about cutting.)

MUST READ FOR ALL BELIEVERS: "The Shack"
ImageRecently, one of my advisory board members told me about a book that he claimed was a "Must read".  My initial thought was, "That seems a little dramatic".  However, as my winter indoor bike workouts drudged on I began looking for any inspiration to get through those long boring workouts.  Obviously, I bought the book he recommended.  It is called "The Shack", to my surprise it more than lived up to the hype.  Now I am on a personal mission to share this amazing revelation of God's character: LOVE with the world.  I would say more, but I don't want to spoil it for you.  I have shared it with three people so far, all of whom were captivated by it.  I also wrote a review and posted it on www.christianbook.com with the book.  It will revolutionize your perspective of God.

Parenting Intentionally

Image A few months ago I had a breakthrough book idea. It was a rip-off of an 80’s bestseller “Everything Men Know about Women” – and I must say I was so proud of myself that I called my literary agent to tell him about it.

My idea was brilliant and HONEST. Not to mention an easy way to get a book published in a hurry . . . so I thought. The book was to be titled, “All I Know about Being a Great Dad.”  When you opened it, there would be a title page and a table of contents that would read Chapter 1, 2, 3, and so on. Then the rest of the book would be blank pages!

The only thing more exciting to me was the speed in which my agent called me back.  It was the only call he’s returned in months. (Hope he doesn’t read this.) Of course he pooped all over my idea, but he suggested that I write a book on “How to Be a Good Dad,” not a great Dad he said, adding “That bar is too intimidating for most men.”

Since then I have been chewing on that statement. (Not the proposed book title, but the intimidating comment.) I have one very simple response to his comment: HOW SAD!  There have been many comments, but little action on the Fatherless state of our Nation, so I don’t intend to make my commentary on that subject. (At least not directly.)
