Tulsa Based Ministry Touching America’s Public Schools

We all know the statistics: Teen pregnancy and abortion are at an all time high.  Drug abuse has now become an issue even in the elementary schools as well as the high schools.  Suicide and murder among teens is almost common place in our schools.  Oh and lets not forget students carrying weapons to school and so forth.  The list seems endless and somewhat hopeless if we allow it to be our focus.

Maybe you’re one of the many who have said, “Something has to be done in the public schools.”  We are pleased to inform you that there is a ministry based right here in Tulsa that is doing just that.  Kids for Christ USA has been assisting parent and student sponsors across Tulsa for nearly five years.  Robert (Bob) Heath and his volunteer team have seen astounding results.  The now assist in the facilitating of Bible Clubs in 35 Public Schools in our area as well as Sacramento and Southern, CA., Brookfield, MA..  They are talking with people in North Carolina, Kentucky and Detroit too.  They have been doing what Heath calls Nickelodean style kids church in the schools before or after school, teaching a simple gospel of peace and God’s love. Over 8000 decisions to serve Jesus with their lives by children and according to Heath far in excess of 3000 people led to Jesus by children.

“We arm them with a simple prayer we call the Ticket to Heaven Prayer and encourage the to hand out tickets to their friends and family,” says Heath. The prayer is taught using eight fingers.  It says, “I thank you Jesus. You died for me.  Rose again for me, forgive all my sins, come into my heart. Make me the champion you want me to be.  In Jesus name, Amen.”  They teach the prayer with a lot of energy and silly voices using repletion so that the children can memorize the prayer.  Bob says, “I believe that if a child will give someone a ticket to heaven the chances of that child developing a true personal relationship with Jesus is significantly increased.”

Just a few weeks in Broken Arrow an 8 year old girl (Who is Characterized as “shy”.) stood up at the end of the school day and asked her entire class that if they had made Jesus their Savior? She then informed them that if they would pray with her he would be their Savior.  Before she prayed she asked for a show of hands if they would like to pray with her: 18 out of 18 hands went up and she prayed the Ticket to Heaven Prayer with them.

Heath tells us that the most common question he is asked is the one you are probably asking at this moment: “How Are You Doing That?”  He responded, “We work largely under the literal and implied parameters of the Equal Access Act.” Though the act addresses specifically secondary students by stating the act as a first amendment right then it implies the same first amendment right to elementary students and their parents.  If a parent and their child wish to sponsor the Bible Club, then they go to the principal and make their request to hold the club.  Once permission is granted they request a room, day and time for their meetings.  “We endeavor to be the ultimate resource for the sponsoring student and parent.  Whether that means advising them who to start the club, giving them curriculum ideas, teaching them how to minister to kids or connecting them with qualified ministry teams.  We are there to assist them in being a success.”

No one can accuse Heath of having a small vision:  “We want to a play a significant role in a nationwide movement that culminates in the planting and sustaining a Bible Club in each of America’s 56, 800+ elementary and Jr. High schools.”  If you ask Bob, how can someone get involved in this project? He’ll likely respond by asking you if you’d be interesting in sponsoring a club?  If you are he wants you to know that there are still around 120 schools in the area and he and his team would love to help reach them.  You can reach Heath by going to Kids for Christ USA’s website: www.kfcusa.org then go to the contact page and you’ll find the ministry’s contact information.
